Blog Spam

Batch Frame has only been up for a few weeks, and although its slowly getting more visitors, it has already become popular with blog spammers. This being my first blog, I was unaware of the issue, but I quickly saw the comments being posted were not the type of thing I wanted on my site. I researched different methods for fighting blog spam, and although there are many ways of doing it, I wanted to find something that I could create from scratch, and have complete control over. Solutions like Captchas and User Registration would work, but it adds an extra step for the user. And there are sites like Aksimet which work well, but I really wanted to create something on my own.

I came across Snook.ca who had the same situation I did and created a point system. This method allowed me to run tests on the post being submitted and rate them based on their content. A low score would be flagged, otherwise it would be posted.

So far everything is working pretty well, I have had to add some more checks, but for the most part, I have been able to stop the spam on my site.
